PADI Open Water
The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular and recognised entry-level diving qualification in the world, and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle.
What you learn
The PADI Open Water course consists of three main phases:
Knowledge Development, to understand basic principles of scuba diving.
2. Confined Water Dives, to learn basic scuba skills.
3. Open Water Dives, to review your skills and explore!
If you’ve tried diving through a Discover Scuba Diving experience or resort course, the skills you learned may be credited towards a portion of the full PADI Open Water Diver course certification.
Upon successful completion you will recieve a certification card which qualifies you to dive with another Open Water Diver or above, to a maximum depth of 18 meters.
To enrol on the PADI Open Water Diver course, you must be a minimum 10 years of age (to acheive a Junior Open Water Diver certification).
Prior to the course you will receive an Openwater crewpak with a course manual. It is important to read all five chapters and complete all five knowledge reviews before starting the course.
4-5 day course broken down into 2-3 days of theory and pool work, followed by 2 days where you will complete 4 open water dives. Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You'll complete pool /confined open water dives, knowledge development sessions and 4 open water ocean dives. You will also need to demonstrate confidence in the water by completing a 200m continuous swim, and a 10 minute flotation exercise. There is also a 50 question multiple choice exam to be taken.
In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear including standard accessories. All equipment for the course will be supplied.
